Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

2010-2011 Alpha Zeta Omega President

Message from the President

As we welcome a new decade, Alpha Zeta Omega is still setting the example of sisterhood and service in the City of Durham.  During this year we celebrated our 82nd chapter anniversary and our tradition of service just continues to shine bright!

This year, 2010, finds us continuing to implement the Extraordinary Service Programs (ESP) designed by our International President Barbara A. McKinzie that focuses on these four platform areas for graduate chapters:  Non-Traditional Entrepreneur, Economic Keys to Success, Economic Growth of the Black Family, and Health Resources Management.   Our implementation activities have included: entrepreneurial workshops and fairs, breast cancer awareness activities, and local reading enrichment programs and other community focused initiatives.

Additionally, we celebrated a significant milestone for our Debutante Cotillion Program that held its 20th Annual Cotillion Ball in March 2010.  It was really a spectacular, classy evening!  We are fortunate to have had the wonderful opportunity to formally introduce many young ladies to the Durham Community and prepare them to begin their college education for 20 years.

As Alpha Kappa Alpha begins its second century of service to all mankind, Alpha Zeta Omega looks forward to continuing to serve the citizens of the Durham community!

Dr.  Tara L. Fikes, Chapter President
